When I continued my education at The College of New Jersey, I found the practice of mindfulness meditation almost immediately. It was advertised on the Welcome Week list of activities, and without having an experience with meditation, I decided to go. This is where I learned about Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and starting to come to regular meditation sessions. I also started attending the Circle of Compassion club weekly meetings in which students gathered and shared various practices of compassion and mindfulness. Through this club, I learned about Mindful Schools, which is an online organization that has trained thousands of educators and counselors on mindfulness. Through their network of certified teachers, I found Trish Miele and her company ToBeMindful. After connecting with her, I found extreme value in having a mentor to help guide me to bring mindfulness to others so I interned with her for about 4 months for my Senior Thesis for my Psychology degree. During this time, I attended several different workshop series, professional developments, and community mindfulness classes and learned so much about the business of mindfulness.
While I was in college, I also continued to practice yoga and was healing my legs. I decided to immerse myself in my yoga practice and decided to do a yoga teacher training at Honor Yoga Pennington. Over those 5 months, I experienced so much emotion, self-growth, and learned a lot more about yoga than I ever did before. I also realized how interconnected yoga, mindfulness, and Taekwondo are. It was also during this time that I realized how much I loved sharing these practices of yoga and mindfulness and wanted to dedicate my career to it. I saw the insides of the public education system and found that it was deprived of the self-healing qualities that yoga and mindfulness contained. I realized that my potential to help and teach others would be maximized if I wasn’t tied down to a single school or classroom and I could reach more students as a teacher in another way.
Since graduating college in December, 2017, I continued to learn about how to teach mindfulness through the Mindful Schools Year-Long certification course. Through this course, I’ve learned from some of the most experienced mindfulness teachers all about the science, practice, and business behind mindfulness. I graduated the course in July 2018. I have also completed Level 1, 2, and 3 of the Little Flower Yoga for Kids program. I plan on completing all the requirements to earn full Kids Yoga certification.
I’m currently located in Hunterdon County, NJ and working with several different organizations and schools to bring mindfulness, yoga, and Taekwondo to many different people. My dream is to one day open up my own school or community center where I can teach people of all ages the practices that I have dedicated my life to!
